My TBR piles - yes, it is plural and it changes on a weekly basis. I have some classics that I "missed" in my youth (My Antonia, Edith Wharton, Jane Austen's Mansfield Park) and some recent releases, mostly fiction, like "The Road" by McCarthy, "Run" by Ann Patchett, and "Loving Frank" by Horan. I also add to my pile as I get recommended authors or discover "new" authors (new to me) - recent recommendations - Denise Mina's trilogy and Laura Lippman (I get to read all of them without waiting!). Bottom line, though is that I am in two different book clubs, so I have to read what is on the list. Hence, the multiple TBR piles. I am in heaven surrounded by my books!
I too have stacks. I used to work in a small independant book store (now out of business) and I attended several book expos. It was not unusual to come home with 50 ARC (advanced reader copies) titles. Many of them I have given away but I have many more that I kept. Add to that the books I "have" to have as they are published....it adds up to an embarassing amount. But, like Paula, I feel like I am in heaven surrounded by my books :>))
Currently on the list is Religious Literacy by Stephen Prothero and Peace Be Unto You by Zachary Karabell. And about twenty murder mysteries. But they are the frosting on the cake.
